CHEAP Warm Air Intake!

Here is my idea for a CHEAP Warm Air Intake that will take you about 2 minutes to complete and will cost NO MONEY! Now, how's that for cheap? If you would like to see a dyno run of someone who tried this modification on Altimas.net, Click Here! They pulled out 7 more Horse Power!

The first thing to do is remove the Air Scoop from the front grill. I really don't know how much air you could be getting into your intake from the tiny slit that is between your hood and the grill. It also is such a tiny little passage with 90 degree turns and a resonator that is just robbing you of horsepower.

To remove, there are four plastic fasteners holding it in place. Take a flat headed screw driver and slip it under the center circle of the fastener. Now pop up the center and the whole fastener will come out. See picture of removed air scoop. The red arrows show where the fasteners were.

Now you will notice the HUGE hole that will let a ton of air into your air box. You are not done yet though...

Now, Open up your air filter box by releasing the two fasteners on the drivers side of the car up next to the fender. Remove the factory air filter.
In the bottom of the air box, you will see a second dark deep hole. This is another resonator. Bypass this by putting duct tape over the hole. I had black gaffers tape that is used in Television studios, but you can use whatever will hold up to the elements!

Now you can clearly see how much more air your intake is going to get.

Now, put the factory filter back in (remember, this is the FREE intake instruction page.) and replace the cover. Now enjoy a little better accelleration!

The sound is great. It is quite while cruising, but when you floor it, it lets out a really great roar! You can also put everything back to looking factory in about 20 seconds.

If you want to improve this method a little bit more, (as I have done) replace the factory air filter with a high airflow K&N air filter. The K&N part number for both the 2.5 and the 3.5 engine is 33-2031-2.
NOW DRIVE!!

UPDATE....

March 4th 2002 -
I removed the lower resonator that I had orgionally taped over in the bottom of the air box. It was very easy to do.

First - Remove the front drivers tire. Now, under the drivers front bumpers there are two black phillips screws. Then in the wheel well, there is a third black phillips screw. Next, use a flat head screw driver and pop out the plastic fastners holding the dust shield in. Now, pull the dust cover back and out of the way. There are two gold bolts with phillips heads on them holding in the silencer. Remove these. Now pull down on the silencer and then replace the dust cover. I haven't driven yet, but it is obvious that more cold air is going to come in through the Bottom grill and up through the silencer hole.
